Thankyou to whoever posted about our wonderful song! I am so glad that someone heard music through the noise. Just in case you are not familiar with the history of "Simple Gifts".....was inspired and written by Elder Joseph Brackett in 1848 who was a member of the United Society of Believers in Christs Second Appearing or "Shakers". Simple Gifts is one of the most popular dance songs of the "Believers" or as the world calls them "Shakers". I thought I might post the words as well so that some of you might sing them along with the music.
Simple Gifts
'Tis the gift to be simple,
'tis the gift to be free,
'Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in the place just right,
'Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gain'd,
To bow and to bend we shan't be asham'd,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.

Elder Brackett died in Maine at the community where the 3 remaining Shakers live today.
thanks
